In July 2010, the Company participated in the Global Compact advocated by the United Nations.
We have adopted the ten principles in the four fields, i.e., "human rights, labor, environment, anti-corruption" raised in the Global Compact, and will actively engage in CSR activities, thereby promoting responsible management practices as a global company, and contributing to creating a sustainable society.
About "UN Global Compact"
The Global Compact is CSR initiatives which was announced by then UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan at the Davos Conference of the World Economic Forum in January 1999, and was formally launched at the United Nations headquarters in New York in July 2000. As of June 2010, about 8,000 companies and organizations from the world are participating.
The Global Compact voluntarily upholds the ten principles consisting of four fields of "human rights, labor, the environment, anti-corruption" and calls the participating companies to promote CSR activities as a responsible corporate citizen, and aims to realize a sustainable and comprehensive global economy including attainment of the UN Millennium Development Goals through these activities.
Ten principles of "UN Global Compact"
Human Rights Businesses should:
Principle 1: Support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and
Principle 2: Make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
Labor Standards Businesses should uphold:
Principle 3: the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labor;
Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labor; and
Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in employment and occupation.
Environment Businesses should:
Principle 7: support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote environmental responsibility; and
Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
Anti-Corruption Businesses should:
Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
